Proverbs 1 8-19 – Bible Study

Here is a personal Bible Study of mine

WIS: What it Says...put into my own words, somewhat.

WIT: What I Think...What this passage made me think about

TBV: The Best Verse...I think you got this one :)

Proverbs 1:8-19

WIS: Listen to the teachings of your mother and father. Let their wisdom be like an adorned chain around your neck. Do not fall into the traps that others set. Some want to take advantage of another's misfortunes and plunder their riches. They would rather take from another as opposed to working for something on their own. These people will receive what they dish out.

WIT: We need to listen to the teachings of our parents and elders to gain the years of wisdom that they have received. By learning from another's mistakes we do not have to make the same ones. It is easy to be jealous of someone or a group of people that have more than we do. In fact, no matter how good we think we got it there is always someone with more. At the same time there are people that wish they had what we have.

Most people never even realize that they can change their situation and are willing to be complacent. Many of the people whom realize there is something better are willing to work for it once they know what to do. Some never will take the time to learn. Those that are too lazy to work for it or see no other way become willing to take from another. They see an easy target and try to take that candy from the baby. The problem is (other than the obvious) that it eventually becomes a way of life.

If things are this easy to take this time it will be the same the next. Then enters the Law of Diminishing Returns that states that the more you do something the less satisfaction you will receive. Those that take something small out of necessity will gradually go larger and larger. Even worse is that others will witness this and see it as a way of life and pattern their ethics around this. If we are to take something from another that we ourselves did not earn let it be the wisdom from their experiences.

TBV: 1:8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching.
